2 held with 2 lakh Saudi riyal in Dhaka
In separate incidents, two persons were detained with around two lakh Saudi riyal, worth around Tk 42 lakh, from the capital today.
Md Abu Hannan was held with 96,000 Saudi riyal from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 1:00am, Customs Inspector Mahbub-e-Khoda told The Daily Star.
“He landed on Dhaka from a Malaysian Airlines flight. Customs officials searched him on suspicion and found the Saudy currency along with Bangladeshi and Malaysian money – which totaled to Tk 18.35 lakh,” the official said.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Railway police detained one Obaidul Kader, 36, from Kamalapur Railway Station with around 1.08 lakh Saudi riyal equivalent to Tk 24 lakh.
“He came from Subarna Express from Chittagong,” sid Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of railway police.
In primary quizzing, the detainee said to have confessed that he transporting the money to Dhaka airport, the OC said. “The money would have been smuggled out of the country.”
