2 held over Ctg court bomb threat
Detectives last night detained two persons in Chittagong city on charges of issuing a threat to blow up the district’s court building on October 14.
The detainees are Nasir Mohammad, 44, a phone-fax shop owner, and his brother-in-law Md Salahuddin, 22, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off, Detective Branch of police picked them up from the shop last evening after tracking signal of the mobile phone used for issuing the bomb threat, said Kushum Dewan, deputy police commissioner of DB of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
During primary interrogation, Nasir said he threatened lawyer Manas Kumar Das, an executive member of Chittagong Bar Association, over mobile phone to frighten him and few other plaintiffs of a land-related case, the police official added.
He however denied any link with the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), the official said.
They were detained under section 54, as no specific case was filed against them, he said.
The duo will be produced to the court by today, he added.
Earlier on October 14, an anonymous caller told Manas that the building would be blown away by the JMB. Extra security measures were taken and regular activities slowed down following the threat.
