2 Eden girls burnt in Dhaka drive-by arson
Two students of Eden College were burnt in another mindless arson attack in Dhaka’s Khejur Bagan near Jatiya Sangsad today during BNP-led 20-party’s countrywide blockade.
The victims were Sharmin Akter and Sathi Akter, first-year students of Islamic Studies under National University. They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
One Maymuna Akhter, a friend accompanying them, was hurt while trying to get off the burning bus in a hurry, hospital sources said.
Miscreants on a motorbike hurled petrol bombs on a Bikalpa Paribahan bus around 1:30pm and fled. The two girls were burned, said Partha Shankar Pal, resident surgeon of DMCH’s burn unit.
Sharmin received 8 percent burn injuries on her legs while Sathi 3 percent, also on her legs, the doctor said. They are currently attending treatments at the hospital.
Sources said, the girls were heading for the college on the last seats of the bus when the arson attack took place.
At least 24 people have been killed and scores others injured in violence throughout the country since January 5, the day the opposition alliance began their agitation programme demanding a fresh national election.
