2 Chapainawabganj ‘Razakars’ indicted
A tribunal in Dhaka framed three charges against two war crimes suspects of Chapainawabganj for their role in crimes against humanity committed in 1971.
The two alleged Razakars are: Mahidur Rahman, 84, of Dadanchak village, and Afsar Hossain alias Chutu, 65, of Satrosia village, of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.
The three charges include mass killing, murders, arson, looting, abduction, torture, and confinement.
International Crimes Tribunal-2 headed by Justice Obaidul Hasan fixed January 12 next year for starting opening statements and recording depositions against the alleged Razakars.
The accused pleaded not guilty when the tribunal asked after it read out the three charges before them.
The accused, allegedly members of Razakar Bahini, an auxiliary force of the Pakistani occupation army, were arrested in a criminal case on September 16 and later the prosecution prayed to show them arrest in the war crimes case.
They are now supporters of BNP.
Meanwhile, ICT-1 took six charges against two war crimes suspects Obaidul Hauque Taher and Ataur Rahaman Noni for their alleged crimes against humanity that they committed in 1971.
Obaidul and Ataur, residents of Mukyrpara in Netrakona district, were arrested on August 12.
