2 BGB men, yaba smuggler hurt in Cox’s Bazar gunfight
Two personnel of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and a yaba smuggler from Myanmar were shot and injured in a gunfight in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early today.
The BGB members seized around 96,000 Yaba tablets, worth around Tk 3 crore, from the Mayanmar citizen, Lt Col Abu Jar Al Jahid, commanding officer of BGB battalion-14 told our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.
The yaba smuggler was identified as Riadul Haque, 20, while the injured BGB men are Lance Naik Selim, 34, and Sipahi Habib, 28.
“The BGB were tipped off about a yaba smuggling operation in Nazirpar village,” the BGB 14 commanding officer said.
“At one point of the crackdown, a gun battle broke out between the border guards and smugglers. Riad and two BGB members sustained bullet injuries.”
“Riad, a member of the smuggling ring, was shot in his right leg,” Jahid said adding that his associates managed to flee the scene.
All the three injured were taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex from where Riad was shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
