18 women activists held near Khaleda’s office
Police this evening detained at least 18 female leaders and activists of BNP in front of Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office.
The latest police action came immediate after law enforcement agencies beefed up their vigilance around the office from 6:40pm.
More than 100 members of law enforcers including policewomen were deployed in different phases in an apparent bid to tighten security in the area.
The women activists were picked up in three phases after they emerged from Khaleda’s office in different groups in the evening.
However, a sub-inspector of Gulshan Model Police Station Shafiul Alam admitted arrest of five and denied giving any details including reasons behind the arrest and names of the arrestees.
Law enforcing have been keeping close eyes on visitors to Khaleda’s office since this evening.
However, some senior journalists including Mahfuzullah and Ruhul Amin Gazi called on Khaleda in the evening.
Meanwhile, police barred a rickshaw van puller from taking six drums to Khaleda’s office around 6:00pm.
Asked, the man said the drums were sent from Karwan Bazar area for reserving water at the office. He however did not tell anything about the senders.
