17 Bangladeshis detained in Malaysia
Malaysian Immigration Police today detained 100 foreigners, including 17 Bangladeshis, in an operation at the Melaka Sentral Bus Terminal of Malacca province.
The other detainees include 38 Indonesian nationals, 16 Nepalese men, 11 Myanmar men, eight Pakistani men, four Indian nationals and two men each from Sri Lanka, Vietnam and the Philippines, The Star reported quoting Malacca Immigration Director Mahpof Mahmood.
He said they were among 550 foreigners aged between 20 and 55, screened at the terminal.
"They came from all parts of Malacca for leisure and to catch up with friends on weekends," he told local reporters.
Mahmood said they had committed various offences including entering and residing in the country without valid passes or permits or possessing fake documents.
The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur did not have any information in this regard yet.
Officials said they will look after the matter.
