16th amendment brought judiciary under govt control: Fakhrul
BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today blasted the government for bringing the 16th amendment to the constitution saying the judiciary has already gone under the absolute control of the government.
"The constitutional amendment is the final arrangement towards fulfilling their dream to restore the one-party BKSAL rule," he said while briefing journalists on today’s hartal.
The BNP-led 20-party alliance enforced the countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal in protest against the amendment which has empowered parliament to remove Supreme Court judges for misbehavior and incapacity.
Speaking at the press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan head office this afternoon, Fakhrul said though there was no debate over the Supreme Judicial Council the government has abolished the SJC just to stay in power forever.
"The government has no moral rights to do so," said Fakhrul, acting secretary general of BNP.
