15 hurt in Narayanganj AL factional clash
At least 15 Awami League activists were injured including six with bullets in a factional clash in Araihajar upazila of Narayanganj this morning.
Two groups of the ruling party locked into the clash in Purbakandi area around 8:30am, leaving 15 activists from both the factions injured, report our Narayanganj correspondent.
There was a long standing rivalry between Joy Ram Das and Madhu Ram Das of the village, said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Araihajar Police Station.
The problem erupted when local ruling party leader and Kalaparhria upazila chairman Saiful Islam Swapan and AL general secretary of union unit Dalim started backing Joy and Madhu, the police official said.
As a sequel, people of the two AL leaders, equipped with sharp weapons and firearms, locked into the clash this morning, he added.
Six people who sustained bullet injuries were whisked off to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital while others were admitted to Araihajar Upazila Health Complex.
