13 Jamaat-Shibir men charged for Ctg blast
Police today pressed charges against 13 local leaders and activists of Jamaat and its student wing Shibir for a cocktail blast in Chittagong city that badly injured a class XI girl student in March last year.
All the 13 Jamaat-Shibir men were named in separate charge sheets submitted in three separate cases filed in collection with the March 28, 2013 blast.
Antu Barua, a student of Aparnacharan City Corporation Girls’ High School in Chittagong city, was going to her coaching class during the second day of the 36-hour countrywide shutdown enforced by the BNP-led opposition alliance.
The charge-sheeted accused include ASM Mashrur Hossain, president of Chittagong city unit ICS (north); Tarek Hossain, general secretary of the district (south) unit Shibir; and Ferdous Koreshi, the district (south) unit Jamaat acting secretary general.
A day after the incident, sub-inspector Jafar Iqbal of the police station filed the cases against 38 Jamaat-Shibir men, naming eight accused under explosive, special powers and penal code.
After 17 months of investigation, police submitted the charge sheets to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury, Sub-Inspector Md Kamruzzaman, Kotwali Police Station, told The Daily Star.
