118 held in Jhenidah, Khulna, Gaibandha
As part of the anti-crime drive across the country, the law enforcers detained around 118 people from different parts of Khulna division, Jhenidah and Gaibandha districts from Thursday night to Friday on several criminal charges.
Police today detained at least four activists of Jamaat-Shibir and one of BNP launching raids at different parts of district on several criminal charges.
Of them, 4 Jamaat-Shibir med were held from Horinakundu and the BNP man was held from Jhenidah sadar upazila for their alleged attempt to go for subversive activities on the street Superintendent of Police in Jhenidah Altaf Hossain told our correspondent.
UNB adds: police in separate drives arrested 75 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami from different parts of the district early Friday.
Mofazzal Hossain, superintendent of police, Gaibandha, said police during the overnight drive arrested the 75 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat on charge of carrying out sabotage.
The arrestees were also involved in blocking roads and vandalising and torching vehicles, he added.
Police sources said they arrested nine activists of BNP-Jamaat from Saghata upazila, three from Fulchhari, four from Palashbari, 13 from Gobindaganj, nine from Sadullapur, 13 from Sundarganj and 18 from sadar upazila of the district.
BSS adds: Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) arrested 38 people including 5 BNP-Shibir men in different charges last night in the city.
Additional Commissioner of KMP Moniruzzaman Mithu said, police arrested 33 people in different cases while three BNP and two Shibir activists were arrested on charge of subversive activities.
