11 rescued while being trafficked to Malaysia, 4 held
Bangladesh Coast Guard early today rescued 11 people from Saint Martin’s Island in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar while being trafficked to Malaysia illegally.
Four traffickers were also detained during the drive, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off, coast guard personnel held the fortune-seekers in south-east area of Saint Martin’s Island when they were gearing to set sail around 4:00am, Lt Khalilur Rahman, commander of Teknaf station’s coast guard, told The Daily Star.
He said the traffickers brought the 11 people from different parts of the country luring them with hopes for employment in exchange for good pay in Malaysia.
They were being taken to Teknaf Police Station, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent. Procedures were underway to lodge a case in this regard under the human traffic law.
