10 trucks vandalised in Natore defying cops escort
Blockaders vandalised 10 goods-laden trucks on Dhaka-Natore highway in Natore Sadar upazila defying police protection during opposition's countrywide blockade early today.
None was hurt in the incident, reported out Natore correspondent.
Meanwhile, a mobile court jailed seven blockaders for one month for hurling brick chips targeting goods-laden trucks on Dhaka-Natore highway at Ahmadpur bazaar in Baraigram upazila around 1:10pm today.
The BNP-led 18-party opposition slated the blockade of roads, rail and waterways from 6:00am Saturday protesting 10th parliamentary election scheduled and demanding a non-party polls-time government. With the fresh one, the opposition alliance has called blockade in five times since November 26.
The opposition men carried out the attack when about 20 to 25 Rajshahi-bound trucks were crossing Harishpur bypass in Sadar upazila around 12:30am with police escort, said Tariqul Islam, assistant superintendent of police in Natore.
The law enforcers had to fire six rubber bullets to disperse the blockaders when the latter hurled brick chips at the vehicles the police official said.
In separate incident, blockaders also set fire on rail tracks pouring patrol at Natore Railway Station this morning.
