1 killed in Fakirapool high-rise fire
A security guard was killed when a fire broke out at a 16-storey commercial building in Fakirapool area of Dhaka in the early hours today.
Hefazat, 35, died of suffocation due to heavy smoke caused by the fire, sources at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital said.
The fire fighters recovered the body of Hefazat from the 13th floor of Paramount Heights, which houses more than 50 offices, after the flame was doused around 3:00am.
The blaze might have been caused by an electrical short circuit at the building, said officials at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.
Starting shortly after midnight, the blaze spread quickly to several floors and black smoke engulfed the entire building.
On information, 13 firefighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
All offices in the building were closed at that time.
