1 killed, 8 injured in Cox’s Bazar robbery
A business man was killed and at least eight villagers were critically injured during a robbery that took place at Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar on early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Abul Mansur, 52, a land broker, son of late Nazir Ahmed resident of Jharjhariquya village of the upazila.
Mahbubul Alam, 28, and his wife Asma Begum, 21, were injured critically during the robbery at about 2:00am and are now undergoing treatment at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
Mahfuzur Rahman officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station said a group of robbers equipped with firearms entered the house of Mahbub Alam and looted gold ornaments and others valuables.
On information, locals chased them but the gang managed to flee the area.
Later, a police team led by Mahmud, sub-inspector of the police station launched a drive at different hills in the area and detained Kabir Ahmed, 28, a citizen of Myanmar from a hill for his alleged involvement in the robbery.
On the basis of Kabir Ahmed’s statement, the police team also conducted a drive in the area to nab his cohorts.
A case was being filed with the Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station at the time of filing the report.
