1 held with 3.2kg gold at Shahjalal
Customs officials detained a person and recovered 3.2 kilogrammes of gold from his possession at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital this morning.
The arrestee Arif Hossain, 28, came from Kuala Lumpur in a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and landed on Dhaka around 8:30am, Shamsul Arafin Khan, assistant commissioner of customs, told The Daily Star.
Arif raised the suspicion among the customs officials when he paid tax for 200 grammes of gold, the official said.
The customs officials then challenged him while he was crossing the green channel of the airport.
After conducting a thorough search the officials recovered 11 more gold bars hidden in his jacket, weighing 3 kilogrammes worth of Tk 1.5 crore, he added.
