Customs Intelligence officials recovered around 1.5 kilograms of gold and detained one person in this connection from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today.
The detainee was identified as Mahibul Khan, 39, son of Nurul Haque Khan, of Lohajang in Munshiganj, Moinul Khan, director general of the customs intelligence told The Daily Star.
Mahibul Khan came from Singapore by a flight MH102 that landed at the airport at about 12:00 noon, he said.
The intelligence official recovered around nine pieces of gold balls, 12 chains and 12 rings when he was passing through the green channel of the airport along with a vacuum cleaner, the DG said.
The market price of the gold which was stashed inside the vacuum cleaner is estimated at Tk 75 lakh, he added.
