Custom Intelligence officials detained a man along with three gold bars, weighing 1.5 kilogrammes, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital this morning.
Detainee MA Rashid, 47, was a passenger of BG 087 that arrived Dhaka from Malaysia at 6:00am, said Custom Intelligence Assistant Director Umme Nahida Akter.
The market price of the gold is Tk 1.10 crore, she added.
The custom officials seized 700 grams gold more from four passengers of the same flight as they were carrying gold more than the amount permitted by the relevant law. The four were released after realising fine.
As per the rule, a passenger can carry 200 grams of gold.
